Without lock mapping, we had to try each 4-digit code in a few places, tampering a victory. ➖ The stalled momentum was exacerbated by lack of lock mapping and overlocking. With unclued “escape room logic” we just had to try seemingly random ways to associate props with inputs. With unclued search, we couldn’t be sure that the issue was not finding the prop or information… so we just had to poke everywhere for something we hadn’t noticed before. This was caused primarily by lack of clue structure. This game was at its best when scaling up interactions or recontextualizing classic escape room puzzle types. ➕ The strongest puzzles and interactions in Dark Wyvern came in the first act. ➕ We especially enjoyed an early puzzle that punctuated the theming. ![]() That said, there was an opportunity to further link the storytelling to the gameplay. ![]() The use of effects further enhanced the atmosphere. The first cozy set with a study aesthetic opened up through a fun transition set into a grand, cavernous gamespace. The risk of Legionnaires’ disease should not be ignored, even at small scale. That said, the interaction needed a touch up… and chlorination. ➕/➖ A puzzle appeared with dramatic, thematic effect. Settingĭark Wyvern started us off in an elegant corporate office before sending us into the deep, dark, depths of the company’s mine. The Dark Wyvern Mining Company had suffered a breach and our expertise was required to explore the depths of the mine to regain control of its systems.
